About us
The design duo CortoMagDelft consists of the two twin sisters Esther and Leah Wiesing. They come from the city of Münster, where their ceramic studio is located since 2020. Both studied product design in Dortmund and Bologna, but also spent time in the fields of art history, graphic design and ceramics.
Today they also work in areas such as design theory, design science and aesthetics. Corto’s approach is based on a central vision: the thematization, testing and redefinition of ceramic material. In their projects, ceramics are used as a starting material to give everyday objects a new perspective. Each object – even if they are usually part of a series – can be seen as a one-off.
CortoMagDelft likes to speak of serial unique pieces. The boundaries between craftsmanship and innovative product design are becoming blurred. One of their central values and concerns is therefore to question materiality and its use, old traditions and their transfer to modern product design, as well as launching questions about the appearance of everyday objects.
